About 3 months passed after PHCN's privatisation was completed. Most of Nigerians are yet to see or feel the impact of the exercise. In fact, public power supply seems to have gotten worse in many parts of the country.
Surely no one expected public power supply to improve immediately after privatisation, however, no one expected things to get worse, like they were getting in the last few weeks.
Nevertheless, privatisation still may be able to put an end to decades of epileptic power supply in Nigeria. Below, see more details on the upcoming projects, which proof this point:
The Transcorp Ughelli Power Ltd. and General Electric (GE) have signed an agreement to expand the capacity of the Ughelli power plant by 1000 MW over the next five years.
The project includes rehabilitation of the damaged GT 15 turbine at the Ughelli plant, which will add 115 MW to the plant's output.
The Transcorp Ughelli power plant at present generates 360 MW of electricity. This amount has grown, up from 160 MW on November 1, 2013, when Transcorp took ownership of the plant.
With the additional 115 MW, as well as other rehabilitation works planned at the plant, output at Ughelli will increase to 700 MW by December 2014.
Do you think more of such agreements by the new owners of PHCN are coming in the days ahead?
